For all the boxes ticked, the Giants skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
That Smith pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Alex Singleton gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Schrader has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Taliese Fuaga and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Adonai Mitchell at the 39th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Caelen Carson in slot 70, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in pick 107, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Adams at Round 4, Pick 28 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Kedon Slovis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Darius Robinson in No. 149, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Knox. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They jumped the gun on Cody Schrader, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
