Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for McKade Mettauer. He came off 67 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They banked enough surplus on Muasau to cover a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They barely believed it either: Javon Bullard still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Mike Sainristil in slot 88 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in No. 92, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ray Davis at pick 124. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Will Shipley at the 137th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 20. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Proctor at No. 178 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They left a pile of value on the table to take McKade Mettauer this early at the Round 6 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Christian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Chad Lindberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Myles Jones at the 220th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taulia Tagovailoa in pick 242 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Darius Muasau in Round 7, Pick 23 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in pick No. 246, with Mark Perry worth more than the price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Donovan Jennings at the 248th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
