They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Barryn Sorrell, 121 picks early at slot 190. The final tally is a middling C+.
On value alone, Bassa makes the weekend a net positive. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
So much rides on Shemar Stewart that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a premier pass rusher. More want than need.
A reach on Isaiah Bond in No. 44; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dylan Sampson at pick No. 76 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Teddye Buchanan in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tonka Hemingway at pick 170 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Upton Stout a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in the 174th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joshua Simon. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Marques Sigle at the 249th pick, and the board did not agree. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
