The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Kamal Hadden slide 34 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Owens reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 29
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 51
Adisa Isaac at pick 58 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 92
Caelen Carson at pick No. 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
Xavier Legette is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 107
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 125 on Maason Smith with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
A quiet steal in slot 168: Mason McCormick for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.26 · Pick 201 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kamal Hadden in the 201st pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 228
A conviction pick on Tyler Owens at Round 6, Pick 44 that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 237
Trey Knox slid further than he should have, and slot 245 is lovely value for the tight end. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 255
No drama and no debate, Ryan Watts went about where he belonged in the 255th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
