You build a draft on nights like this. Rod Moore had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 4, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Griffith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to No. 38. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 69 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Jack Nelson in slot 77 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in pick 104, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in the 143rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Thor Griffith in Round 7, Pick 1 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Rod Moore at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fentrell Cypress II in Round 7, Pick 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
