You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Golday had no business being available in the Round 4 slot, and the Browns did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
If Bell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, with Carnell Tate leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Akheem Mesidor in slot 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Markel Bell at the 70th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Golday at the 107th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Malik Muhammad was the payoff at No. 112. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaeden Roberts. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Drew Allar at pick 149 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Kaelon Black enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 206. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
