The Dolphins lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The Murphy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Adisa Isaac at the 55th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Devontez Walker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Chau Smith-Wade in slot 101 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kitan Oladapo in No. 158. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kendall Milton a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Myles Murphy at pick 198 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
