For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Browns walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Miller has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Landing Hill Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Blake Miller at Round 1, Pick 28 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Omar Cooper Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Chris Bell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Anthony Hill Jr. is a better player than pick No. 47 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
