Miami Dolphins

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Dolphins to a D-.

by sim · 2024 NFL Draft · 10 picks · 1 steals · 4 reaches
Value C
Need B
Trades F
Future B+

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent the Round 7 slot on Aaron Lewis, a name most had 56 spots down the list. Put together, it is a D-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 7 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in pick 57. It fills a real need, too.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 83
They took Braden Fiske at par in No. 85, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in the 108th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.19 · Pick 155 · Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint · WR · rank 147
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick No. 155 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 193
AJ Barner in the 186th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 216
Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.26 · Pick 201 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
Good price on Christian Jones in the 201st overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · MJ Sherman · OLB-EDGE · rank 291
A swing that ignored the value entirely, MJ Sherman well ahead of where he belonged. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Aaron Lewis · DL-EDGE · rank 297
A big swing on Aaron Lewis at pick 241, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
