The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Dolphins walked right past. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Getting McCoy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Newton. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 65, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Mahogany in the 81st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in slot 138; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Cole Bishop was the payoff at No. 166. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Cornelius Johnson at par in Round 6, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bru McCoy in pick 250 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
