The Packers went off the board in a big way for Kamren Kinchens, 23 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Melton to cover a lot of smaller sins. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
They jumped the gun on Cooper DeJean, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 73 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Bucky Irving, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at the 109th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Donovan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in the 187th pick, with Julian Pearl worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Erick All at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Rasheen Ali in pick 219; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jason Henderson at slot 230 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
