You can draft well and still miss the point. The Giants did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Arnold at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The James Daniels pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on JC Latham in pick No. 23, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the 39th overall pick, with Terrion Arnold worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 15 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in slot 70, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braelon Allen in No. 107 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at the 143rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
