Call it larceny. M.J. Devonshire sat on the board until pick 233, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ricky Pearsall is a better player than pick No. 69 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mike Sainristil slipping to Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
MarShawn Lloyd slid further than he should have, and the 105th pick is lovely value for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Jordan Jefferson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 174. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in the 216th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay M.J. Devonshire at pick 233 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Dominique Hampton for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
