The Giants torched the value chart for Frank Gore Jr., taking him 70 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at Round 1, Pick 6, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on Johnny Wilson in pick No. 34, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; Troy Fautanu went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Denzel Burke come to them and pounced at the 70th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Tyler Davis in the 106th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had James Williams higher than No. 143, and the safety fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 184 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
