Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Dolphins, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
They will need Carter to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Roman Wilson in pick 33, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, DeWayne Carter in the 75th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Max Melton, who had no business lasting to No. 102. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Grayson Murphy at Round 5, Pick 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 173 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Jaylan Ford in slot 186; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Garret Greenfield at the 200th pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
