Somebody in the 185th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Jaylen Wright, the No. 158 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Legette at slot 39 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 27: Jackson Powers-Johnson for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Adisa Isaac in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at pick 107, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Cam Hart in No. 143, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Chau Smith-Wade at pick No. 164 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Wright at the 185th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
