The Giants did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

It is a puzzling start. The Giants had edge rusher and tight end to solve and reached instead for Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE, at Round 4, Pick 7.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Franklin at that price is a win they earned.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 15
In pick No. 23 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 24
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in Round 2, Pick 7. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 49
No drama and no debate, Calen Bullock went about where he belonged in pick No. 47. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 48
They read the board right and Devontez Walker was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 68
Mekhi Wingo in the 70th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
A tidy little value on Cooper Beebe in the 85th overall pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 108
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 107 on Javon Solomon with edge rusher and tight end unsolved.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 132
Jordan Travis in slot 123 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 170
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
