Green Bay Packers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B.

The curious call sets the tone. With edge rusher still glaring, the Packers used slot 88 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not exactly short of. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on McMillan to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 33
In the 25th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
A tidy little value on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 57th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 63 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
A curious use of slot 88. Edge rusher needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 81
The board had Jalen McMillan higher than pick 91, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 89
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Michael Hall Jr.. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 99
Blake Fisher at the 98th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 124
Johnny Dixon at Round 4, Pick 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 125
Nothing to complain about; Tommy Eichenberg went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Luke McCaffrey · QB · rank 137
They paid sticker price for Luke McCaffrey in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 186
They went early on AJ Barner in the 177th pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Miyan Williams · RB · rank 197
Good price on Miyan Williams in Round 6, Pick 28, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 226
They paid up for Trevor Keegan at the 217th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
A reach for Matthew Jones in slot 219; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.30 · Pick 250 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 244
Donovan Jennings in pick 250 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
