The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
They banked enough surplus on McKinstry to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Allen reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 39th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in pick 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 7, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid a round early for Braelon Allen in No. 143, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Ethan Driskell in the 185th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
