Whoever sat across the table from the Giants should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The Carter pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Adding Budda Baker by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in pick No. 47, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Caelen Carson in pick 66 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Christian Haynes in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson in No. 71 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Junior Colson in the 107th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They did well to land Kedon Slovis in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
DeWayne Carter at the 185th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
