Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Commanders never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
Landing Roberts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Everette reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a green-dot type in the middle. Need was not the driver here.
Daylen Everette at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zxavian Harris in the 147th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jeff Caldwell at Round 6, Pick 6 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Thaddeus Dixon. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chase Roberts at No. 223 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
