The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: Terrion Arnold, the No. 22 name on the board, sitting there at Round 2, Pick 15 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Gore Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Bottom line, with Olumuyiwa Fashanu leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Dallas Turner was still sitting there in the 37th pick, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Terrion Arnold still on the board at Round 2, Pick 15. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at pick No. 69, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ricky Pearsall in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Donovan Jackson in pick 105; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Cole Bishop at the 142nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Frank Gore Jr. at No. 145, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Sam Hartman in Round 6, Pick 8, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
