The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Worthy at that price is a win they earned.
They will need Beebe to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Newton at slot 37, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Cooper Beebe in the 47th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Worthy at No. 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zak Zinter in pick No. 103. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Matt Goncalves at par in Round 4, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in pick 142 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Braden Fiske was the payoff at the 183rd overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
