Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Ollie Gordon II, the No. 164 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 255.
The Brown reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jared Ivey in Round 2, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyleik Williams at No. 64 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Harold Fannin Jr. in the 68th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Logan Brown at pick No. 78 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Nelson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Savion Williams at the 115th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Andrew Mukuba at pick 133 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
You do not let a linebacker like Barrett Carter reach Round 5, Pick 11 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at pick 255. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
