The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Daequan Hardy at No. 241 regardless, 35 picks early. Put together, it is a D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The McCaffrey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Bralen Trice at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Michael Hall Jr. went about where he belonged in slot 76. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at the 112th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 142 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Kendall Milton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Drake Nugent a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Michael Barrett in the 232nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Daequan Hardy in pick No. 241 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
