The phones were a trap the Giants kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Cowing at that price is a win they earned.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in pick 39, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 43rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonah Elliss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Byron Murphy II at the 70th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Corum in No. 74 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Javion Cohen at par in slot 143, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jacob Cowing at pick No. 185 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
