Nobody had Will Kacmarek this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 72 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 25. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it.
Hall falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an enforcer at safety, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
No drama and no debate, Christen Miller went about where he belonged in pick 57. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Dani Dennis-Sutton in the 60th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Sam Hecht in pick No. 89, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 112 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Demond Claiborne. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TJ Hall at Round 7, Pick 23. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Will Kacmarek in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
