The Vikings clearly saw something nobody else did in Joe Milton III, taking him 35 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Richardson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 42 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in slot 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than Tyrice Knight at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Joe Milton III at the 129th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah Davis this early at Round 5, Pick 24. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brevyn Spann-Ford. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Carson Steele at slot 225, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in No. 256, with Demani Richardson worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
