You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Ricky Pearsall at the 154th overall pick, roughly 46 spots before his name belonged.
They banked enough surplus on Noel to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Leonard Taylor III at pick 49 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 29 says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 117th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for Devin Neal, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Ricky Pearsall at the 154th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Jaylin Noel at slot 234 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Reuben Fatheree II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
