The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Sam Hartman went at the Round 6 slot, a good 65 picks before the board was ready.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Value said wait; Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 2 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 47 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Payton Wilson at the 68th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They went early on Blake Fisher in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sataoa Laumea at pick 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Jarrian Jones was still sitting there in slot 180, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A minor itch, scratched.
Sam Hartman in the 193rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 231st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
