The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, in the 235th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with tight end solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. More want than need.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Warren in the 59th pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Darien Porter at pick No. 79 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Joshua Gray at No. 202 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Nicholas Singleton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylen Reed in slot 246 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
