Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Packers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.
The Arnold value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Amari Cooper chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled Terrion Arnold all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Matt Goncalves at pick 119 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Williams in slot 135. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Shemar Turner at the 139th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in No. 217: Roger Rosengarten for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
They took Eric Gentry at par in Round 7, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
