You could see the war room lean forward. Trevor Keegan at pick No. 202 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Wallace has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Wallace pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
The board had cheaper options than Max Melton at pick 58, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Junior Colson at the 66th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in No. 88. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in the Round 3 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Austin Booker at Round 3, Pick 28 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A surprising call. With quarterback, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 126 on Trevin Wallace, a linebacker they were not short of.
Tanor Bortolini in the 138th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Somehow Trevor Keegan was still sitting there in pick No. 202, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Garret Greenfield in Round 6, Pick 44; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Bub Means went about where he belonged in slot 226. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Blake Watson still on the board at the Round 7 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Nick Gargiulo at the 255th pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
