The war room fell hard for Kobe Baynes, and it showed at the 170th pick: 25 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 60 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value with a capital V on D'Angelo Ponds in pick 62, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jacob Rodriguez at slot 89. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 108th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Kobe Baynes at slot 170, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zavion Thomas slid further than he should have, and No. 239 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nolan Rucci at Round 7, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
