After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Landing Taylor-Demerson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Legette has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 2, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in the 68th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 103rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Jared Wiley in slot 137, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Nelson Ceaser in No. 180; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Decamerion Richardson at pick 193 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jalen Coker at pick No. 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
