When the story of this class is written, it opens with Joshua Braun at the 246th pick, a reach of 38 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Davis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Slaughter pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
In the 30th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Eli Stowers, who had no business lasting to pick 69. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in slot 75, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 87. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ted Hurst at No. 94. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Devin Moore still on the board at the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Michael Trigg went about where he belonged in slot 116. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 20 on Tacario Davis with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Raridon. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A clean, defensible pick in the 151st pick with a little surplus value in Isaiah World. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Jeff Caldwell higher than the 195th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Lander Barton in pick 227, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Owen Heinecke at No. 229 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Logan Taylor in pick No. 238, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Nolan Rucci at par in the 243rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Joshua Braun at the 246th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
