For all the boxes ticked, the Packers skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was.
Thomas Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If Bortolini pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
DJ James in pick 88 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 126th pick, where Cole Bishop graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mason McCormick at the 169th overall pick is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on Tanor Bortolini at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Proctor in No. 219. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
