Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Caedan Wallace got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the 255th pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Reaching for Foster left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaden Hicks in pick 88. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javon Foster in No. 91, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Isaac Guerendo at the 126th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Tanor Bortolini in slot 169, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Garret Greenfield, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josh Proctor at the 219th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid sticker price for Bub Means in No. 245, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Caedan Wallace was still sitting there in slot 255, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
