The Steven Parker selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 113 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Skattebo pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 6 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andrew Mukuba in pick 81. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at No. 105 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jared Wilson in the 145th overall pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Steven Parker at No. 219, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kiser in Round 7, Pick 22 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
