The Texans put a flag in the ground for Jack Nelson, 43 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The Hunter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Alfred Collins at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kalel Mullings in the 89th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Jack Nelson in No. 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ajani Cornelius. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Jarquez Hunter in Round 7, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
