Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chargers took Jayson Jones a full 155 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Clark where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 59
They reached a country mile for Jonathon Brooks at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 67
Byron Murphy II in pick No. 72 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 99
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Braelon Allen in the 108th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R5.9 · Pick 145 · Ashton Gillotte · DL-EDGE · rank 164
Ashton Gillotte at pick 145 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Jordan Burch · DE-EDGE · rank 192
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Burch at the 186th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Jayson Jones · DL · rank 369
A wild overpay on Jayson Jones in pick No. 214, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 242
Jordan Jefferson in Round 6, Pick 41 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.43 · Pick 218 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 264
Xavier Thomas at slot 218 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · J.J. Weaver · LB-EDGE · rank 241
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 214
They let De'Corian Clark come to them and pounced at pick 229. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 293
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaiah Davis. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
