If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Julius Welschof at the Round 7 slot is 108 spots clear of where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Turner falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nice patience on Jared Verse, who had no business lasting to pick 24. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Johnny Wilson in No. 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 27, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson at the 123rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Malik Mustapha in the 126th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick 163 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Carson Steele enough to skip the value, taking him in the 239th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Julius Welschof in slot 247, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
