The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Curtis Jacobs, 88 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Curtis Jacobs at No. 87 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cedric Johnson in the 124th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached a country mile for Zion Logue at pick No. 174, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Daequan Hardy at par in the 212th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Caleb Okechukwu in pick No. 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
