The Bucky Irving pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 42 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Colson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They liked T.J. Tampa enough to skip the value, taking him in the 41st pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Jaden Hicks in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Junior Colson in No. 64 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Patrick Paul in slot 88 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Bucky Irving in pick 91 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cam Hart slipping to the 126th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
