Nobody had Jimmy Horn Jr. this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 95 spots to get him at slot 170. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a centerfielder for the defense, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
They read the board right and Deone Walker was the payoff at the 44th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Quinshon Judkins in Round 3, Pick 13, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Le'Veon Moss at pick No. 113 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Logan Brown in the 151st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Kyren Lacy in slot 169 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jimmy Horn Jr. in slot 170, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Shemar Turner in the 172nd pick, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Terrance Ferguson at Round 6, Pick 13 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Jaxson Dart at pick No. 209 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
