The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Graham Barton in pick 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in slot 40, where Cooper DeJean graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Austin Booker went about where he belonged in No. 78. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 37, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Roger Rosengarten in pick No. 139, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty'Ron Hopper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 222, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
