Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Packers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Dixon to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots went begging.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the 47th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Kris Jenkins in pick 58, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Calen Bullock in pick No. 88 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety that was not the priority.
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 126th pick on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Isaac Guerendo at pick 128 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Trente Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in the 185th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Garret Greenfield at Round 6, Pick 27, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Dixon in slot 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edefuan Ulofoshio. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jalen Sundell in the 245th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Tylan Grable in No. 255 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
