Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Commanders never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Slaughter to cover a lot of smaller sins. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield at fair value. A real need, handled.
The board had Jake Slaughter higher than the 71st pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on CJ Daniels in pick No. 147, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Taylen Green in Round 6, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Thaddeus Dixon at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
