More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B- to prove it.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Diego Pounds; the Dolphins did not wait, grabbing him 132 spots ahead at the 257th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

That Slaughter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In the 11th pick they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Blake Miller · OT · rank 45
Blake Miller in pick No. 43 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 60
Keionte Scott in slot 75 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 87 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 115
Michael Trigg at pick 92 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Ted Hurst in Round 3, Pick 30 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 143
They paid a round early for Dametrious Crownover in pick No. 130, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Drew Allar at pick 151 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 186
Taylen Green at the 152nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Jaren Kanak · TE · rank 225
They paid sticker price for Jaren Kanak in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 251
They jumped the gun on Bryce Foster, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
Eric Gentry in the 239th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Enrique Cruz Jr. · OT · rank 291
A wild overpay on Enrique Cruz Jr. in No. 241, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Micah Morris · OG · rank 323
They reached a country mile for Micah Morris at the 246th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Joshua Braun · OG · rank 282
They talked themselves into Joshua Braun at Round 7, Pick 40, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Diego Pounds · OT · rank 389
Diego Pounds at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
