The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Ryan Flournoy, the No. 205 name on the board, sitting there at the 244th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They are betting Raym proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Brock Bowers in the 24th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Graham Barton at No. 56 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Bucky Irving at slot 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Ty'Ron Hopper in the 174th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Andrew Raym, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Josh Proctor at pick No. 233 when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ryan Flournoy at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
